Here we are, day one of maternity leave in the books, and just under one week from the pending arrival of our daughter… and I am finally getting around to sharing the beautiful party that was thrown in the honor of her arrival on the 19th of March! I couldn’t not share it, even though it’s way later than planned! From what I hear, that’s kind of going to be the story of my life for a while, so I better just learn to roll with it.
The story behind the celebration is that we (mostly, I) have a lot of family, and instead of having several smaller gatherings, I wanted to bring everyone together for one big, non-traditional gathering! I had some pretty amazing hosts, and with a few guidelines, they just ran with it! We wanted it to be the most chill, laid-back, enjoyable for men, non-shower there ever was. I know for a fact that my expectations were beyond exceeded! The following is what you get when you let some very talented wedding vendors and aunts get together to throw a “non-shower, baby shower”. There’s so much to show you, that it’s only fair to break it down into sections. Enjoy!
Well, since this is my jam, I definitely went all out! I had a friend text me after she received hers, and say it was way nicer than her own wedding invitation. Touché, mine too! They were so special to design, and probably my favorite design piece this spring. They are even going to be on display at the National Stationery Show in just a week or two, which is so exciting for me! The challenge was to convey the chillness, but let people know it was still a baby shower, just not your traditional one… and that men and kids were encouraged to come!
Our friends Ali and Justin had recently purchased The Bay at Mooresville and graciously let us have the first party! I could not think of a more perfect venue to have the event, on a beautiful, crisp March day.
We used the tent for seating, and the house for gifts! Oh, the gifts! We still haven’t written all our thank yous (forgive me!) for all the treasures that Gemma received. We chose to have our hostesses unwrap the gifts for us, so we could spend that time seeing all of our friends and family. Otherwise, I believe we might have been unwrapping gifts for the entire party…
This beautiful venue is currently up for sale, and would the perfect little restaurant or bakery. If you can see yourself working and living at The Bay, check out the listing here.
My talented friend, Lisa Akins, adorned the space with her gorgeous talents and floral designs. We enjoyed the big centerpiece in our home for the entire week after the shower!
The Food & The Signage
Holy Moly, the food. I mean when one of your besties is a chef, I suppose you can expect nothing less. A “His” and “Hers” table were beautifully arranged with all of our favorite treats! They were enhanced by the beautiful writing of my stationery work friend, and fellow preggo (until last week!), Katie! If our friends and family didn’t come for the babe, you know they came for the food.
My aunts seriously outdid themselves with the sweet treats! I still have dreams about the springtime almond nuggets and cream cheese delights, two of my most favorite Christmas treats we bake together each year.
They had a little help with the iced cookies from the talents of Telah’s Cozy Cookies. Even though they were almost too cute to eat, that didn’t stop anyone from devouring the tasty little treats.
My friends Ali & Justin, along with Ali’s sister, Jess, also own a bar! Even though I couldn’t partake, I knew if I wanted a co-ed shower there must be alcohol! Jess was kind enough to bartend for us during the event. I’d say the alcohol was a huge hit, because no one was expecting the festive champagne drinks and beer at a baby shower. Score for the non-shower! There were also plenty of beautiful “mom-friendly” drinks from my BFF, Valerie, too!
Music? Ah yes, my fabulous friends surprised us with a live band! Not just any live band, but my favorites, Alex & Colin from Seducing Alice! I think this was another huge surprise for all of our guests, too, and was the perfect addition to make sure there weren’t any awkward silences. The kiddos loved it too, because they are never afraid to dance on a Sunday afternoon!
The People & The Photos
Any party is only as good as the people attending, and well, we had the best for that too!
First, a huge huge huge shoutout to all of the hosts for pulling off this incredible event in our honor. These people are 100% Gemma’s family, blood or not!
Second, to our friends, and former wedding photographers, Erin & Will for “working” during our event, after they already had a real wedding the day before.
And, to all of our friends + family that came to share their Sunday with us—we love you, and can’t wait to share our little girl with you!
And what would a good baby party be without a handful of pregnant people to share it with?! Gemma will have no shortage of friends, that’s for sure!
Really though, not enough thanks can be said for this incredible, beautiful afternoon to celebrate our baby girl. We are forever grateful!
A huge thank you to my friend Christina, for making this momma look & feel so beautiful for this amazing party!
